Executive Leadership AI Risk Governance Ethics Transformation

Dr Joanna Michalska is a senior executive, researcher, and independent strategic advisor specialising in AI risk, governance, and ethics in complex, regulated environments. She works with boards and senior executives on high-impact decisions where leadership capability, accountability, and oversight must evolve as intelligent systems become embedded across organisations, shaping strategy and long-term direction.

She is the Founder and CEO of an independent strategic advisory, supporting leaders and boards on risk, governance, and ethical decision-making in AI-enabled, complex systems. Her work focuses on helping organisations connect regulatory, ethical, and risk expectations to practical leadership and governance responses, grounded in deep executive experience in environments subject to sustained regulatory scrutiny.

Alongside her advisory work, Joanna leads applied research in AI risk and governance, examining how organisations adapt decision authority, accountability, and oversight in algorithmic environments. Her research focuses on the growing gap between formal governance frameworks and the realities of decision-making as responsibility becomes increasingly distributed between people, data, and automated systems, and how this gap can be addressed in practice.

She brings extensive senior leadership experience from global financial services, including executive roles at J.P. Morgan and HSBC, where she led large-scale, regulatory-driven transformation across enterprise risk, governance, data, and operating models. Joanna holds a PhD in Enterprise Risk Management and contributes through applied research, teaching, mentoring, and executive engagement on AI risk, responsible leadership, and ethical governance.
