AI Risk Ethics Governance

Dr Joanna Michalska is the Founding Director of Applied Research in AI Risk, Ethics and Governance at the Strategic Centre, aimed at helping boards and executives understand and govern AI risk to enable responsible, human-centred decisions that support ethical responsibility, regulatory resilience, and long-term value creation. In parallel, she is the Founder and CEO of Ethica Group Ltd, an independent advisory and research platform focused on AI risk, ethics, and governance.

Joanna brings extensive enterprise expertise from senior roles in global financial services at J.P. Morgan and HSBC, where she led enterprise risk, transformation, and regulatory initiatives in highly regulated environments. She holds a PhD in Enterprise Risk Management and conducts applied research on how emerging AI risks materialise in real organisational contexts. Her work champions conscious, human-centred decision-making as critical to trustworthy AI, translating ethics, regulation, and risk theory into practical governance frameworks. She is a speaker and writer on AI risk, responsible leadership, and ethical governance.
